Panini grill.

The panini is indeed Italian and is thought to have originated in Lombardy, Italy, as a lunchtime meal for workers.

A panini grill is an electric contact grill that heats food from both the top and bottom simultaneously to make crispy sandwiches such as paninis, but it can also be used to grill vegetables, meat and make other types of hot food.
